Nicolai is a knight, a member of the ancient Slavic Order of Saint Andrew. He lives alone in a postmodern world that has changed in many ways, both for the good and the bad. He is sworn to protect the broken, look after the weak, and to help the weary.Earth’s remaining population, one tenth of what it was, has clustered into those that survive through acts of good, and those that survive by evil. Through journeys of circumstance Nicolai gathers a group of the dispossessed to a faraway Siberian outpost where the lives of these lost souls intersect. A broken angel, a displaced cello maestro, a recovering assassin, and an elderly clergyman. God’s orphans.The story takes place in a land itself a graveyard of long banished and abandoned people, their bones littering the surrounding land, paths, and forests. With the coming of a new Spring, the group finds community, joy, hope, and a renewal of faith and strength for the future, while Nicolai protects his new family from the evil surrounding them.
